Vytautas Labutis graduated in 1986 from the Vilnius Academy of Music completing a course in saxophone
playing.
He constantly takes part in various international - “Jazz Baltica Ensemble” ( leaders D.Murray, N.O.Pedersen,
M.Schneider, D.Bates, etc. ), ”Octet Ost” ( lead. Ch.Muthspiel ), “Moscow Composers Orchestra”, ”New European
Saxophone Quartet”, ”A.Vapirov Big Band” and Lithuanian projects - “Vilnius Jazz Quartet featuring Neda”, ”D.Pulauskas Sextet”, ”L.Šinkarenko Quartet”, ”Kaunas BigBand”, ”Lithuanian Art Orchestra” ( lead.V.Tarasov ),
”Duo E.Kanevičius & V.Labutis”, composes and presents his originalprojects as a leader ( V.Labutis quartet, octet CD “Terra Vandetuja”, project “Orkestretto”, etc.) Also plays and composes for the movies, theatres and teaches saxophone and improvisation in Vilnius B.Dvarionas music school.
In his music he originally merges experience of jazz music, classical, experimental and alternative music.
As a final result he produces the synthesis of unpredictable music product. It is one of undoubtful features
of his individuality. Multiinstrumentalist and improviser by his nature V.Labutis is creating music while being
on the scene, at the same time, liberating himself from usual jazz frames. It looks like he is protesting
against routine in music every time proving the statement “let’s perform life on the scene and it will be
much easiear to die”. This viewpoint finds the way to the listeners heart and his music creates magnificent
atmosphere, invites to meet the musician every time you can...
